![]() THE HOUSE WAS DESIGNED LIKE A LABYRINTH.īy Library of Congress, Public Domain, Wikimedia Commons She had to be dug out by her staff, as its entrance was blocked off by rubble. As for Sarah, she was safe but stuck in the Daisy Bedroom, named for the floral motif in its windows. That tower-plus several other rooms destroyed in the disaster-were never rebuilt, but cordoned off. A 1900 postcard of the place shows a tower that was later toppled by the natural disaster. In 1906, the great San Francisco Earthquake caused three floors of the then seven-story house to cave in. AN EARTHQUAKE ONCE RATTLED THE HOUSE AND TRAPPED SARAH. THE HOUSE IS FULL OF ARCHITECTURAL ODDITIES. It's said that upon hearing the news of Sarah's death, the carpenters quit so abruptly they left half-hammered nails protruding from walls. The work only stopped on September 5, 1922, because the octogenarian mastermind behind the home died of heart failure in her sleep. She employed a crew of carpenters, who split shifts so construction could go on day and night, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year, for 38 years. Sarah was advised to leave their home in New Haven, Connecticut, behind, and move west, where she was to build a grand home for the spirits. In order to protect herself, William said that Sarah must "build a home for and for the spirits who have fallen from this terrible weapon." He warned that vengeful ghosts would seek her out. Through the medium, William told his widow that their tragedies (the couple had only one child, a daughter named Annie, who died at six weeks old) were a result of the blood money the family had made off of the Winchester rifles. While she was presumably looking for solace or closure, she was instead given a chilling warning. ![]() Overcome with grief in the wake of her husband's death from tuberculosis in 1881, folklore states that Sarah sought out a spiritualist who could commune with the dead. This gives the Black an edge for capturing fast-moving action, which will translate to better slow motion with greater detail.Īdditionally, the Black features a removable battery, so if you run out of juice (as you’re likely to do) you can swap in a fresh one. The Session maxes out at 80 fps in Full HD. There Hero5 Black can also shoot at higher framerates, up to 120 fps in Full HD 1080p. According to GoPro, it also won’t hold up as well in darker environments, with “consumer grade” low-light capability compared to the Black’s “professional grade.” For average use, this probably won’t make much difference, but these are things to be aware of, and discerning users should opt for the Black for the best image quality. The newer, higher-resolution sensor in the Black can shoot 4K in the extra-wide SuperView mode, while the Session has to drop down to 2.7K or lower to use SuperView. It’s a feature we really liked on Garmin’s Virb Ultra30, and definitely sets the Hero5 Black apart from other GoPros.įurthermore, while the Session is no slouch, it won’t quite match the image quality of the Black. This information can then be overlaid on the video to provide an entertaining new dimension to your adventures. In a surprise update last year, GoPro unlocked that camera’s internal GPS to enable data logging for location, course position, altitude, speed, and g-force. However, the Hero5 Black still has its advantages. Luckily for the Session, we’d hardly call the lack of RAW images a deal breaker, since we doubt most users care about having that feature in an action camera. This in itself may not be a huge difference, but the Black can also save high-quality RAW photos, while the Session is limited to compressed JPEGs. ![]() One area where they clearly differ is in still photography, where the Black can shoot 12-megapixel stills compared to the Session’s 10. The Session can submerge down to 33 feet underwater without a case – equal again to the Black. Both offer 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps) voice control digital image stabilization (in non-4K resolutions) and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. With the Session, GoPro is very aware of one thing: convenience is king.Ī cursory glance at the spec sheets of the Hero5 Black and Session is all it takes to see that these two cameras are very similar. It’s gray instead of black this time around, with the same stealthy matte coating as the Hero5 Black. On the left side you’ll find a MicroSD card slot and, new to this generation, a USB-C port. There’s a lens on the front, a large record button on top, and a smaller menu button on the back. ![]() It could easily be mistaken for the entry-level Hero Session, with the same cube-like shape. ![]() The Hero5 Session may be entirely new on the inside, but you wouldn’t know it just by looking. There are just two Hero5 cameras, while the Hero4 Session has been rebranded as just the Hero Session and remains on as a low-end offering, at $150. There are still plenty of reasons to opt for the top-of-the-line model, but it helps that GoPro’s entire lineup feels more streamlined this time around. The anti-ESG movement has also chilled support for some ESG proposals, with "woke ESG" now part of the culture wars in America. This coincided with increased scrutiny of the use of ESG or sustainability as an investment framework, with concerns about greenwashing top of mind for both investors and policymakers. The war in Ukraine saw oil and gas assets increase in price after years of underperformance, largely due to fears of a scarcity of access to Russian oil and gas. For one thing, the performance of ESG or sustainability-related funds has disappointed recently after years of steady outperformance. There are several factors behind decreased support for ESG resolutions. That compares to average support for pro-ESG proposals of 21.5 percent support in 2023, down from 29.3 percent last year. Support for those sorts of resolutions has tracked in the low single digits (about 4 percent) for years.
